Chinese BYD becomes the first car manufacturer to pass the milestone of 6 million electrified vehicles (rechargeable hybrids and 100% electric combined) produced. It’s a feat that highlights the brand’s excellent form.
BYD has manufactured 6 million electrified vehicles
Since 2008, when BYD began manufacturing electrified vehicles, 6 million plug-in models have left the Chinese manufacturer’s factories. The company is proud to be the first in the world to achieve this milestone. Note, however, that other brands have already broken similar records: Tesla, for example, reached the mark of 5 million vehicles produced in September 2023, and these were all electric.

But, in recent months, the pace of production has accelerated at BYD. The Chinese manufacturer even plans to manufacture 3.6 million electrified vehicles in 2023 alone. To better understand this acceleration, you just need to look back a few years: it took BYD 13 years to produce its first million electrified vehicles. But only three months for this sixth million.

The strong brand of the moment
The company now has nine factories in China. They are located in the cities of Xian, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Changzhou, Xiangyang, Hefei, Changsha, Fuzhou and Shenzhen. Sales of plug-in models are growing rapidly in China and BYD is taking advantage. The manufacturer has also managed to capitalize on exports. The brand’s electrified vehicles are now distributed in 57 countries. The company will soon have giant ships to attack Europe massively.

New factories outside China are also expected to emerge in the coming years. The manufacturer is seeking to establish itself in Thailand, Brazil, the Middle East and Europe. Courted by most countries on the Old Continent, BYD might ultimately choose Hungary, a country where the Chinese company is already present. The brand has promised to confirm this information before the end of 2023.
