A demand for foldable cell phone screens in China is expected to increase considerably in a year. At least, that’s what an Omdia report predicts, which suggests a 340% growth in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the same period last year.
This information took into account analyzes carried out by the three main manufacturers of this type of component in the country: Visionox, China Star and BOE. To give you an idea, the total volume of screen sales for this category of devices was 830 thousand in the fourth quarter of 2022.
In 2023, this number should rise to 3.66 million in the same period this year. As expected, this growth is due to the increase in demand for foldable cell phones, which grew in China. The Omdia report showed that 16 of the 18 models launched worldwide are made by Chinese companies.
Of this number, 13 are manufactured with OLED screens produced in Chinese territory. Taking the entire year 2022 into account, 2.66 million foldable screens were sold through the three main suppliers and the forecast for this year is that 7.89 million will be sold.
