The Motorized Brigade N°1 Calama from I Division of the Chilean’s Army developed the field training exercise (FTX) Andean Sentinel to evaluate and certify the development of the capabilities of its members in combat situations.

According to the institution, this exercise, carried out on the instruction premises Eyes of Saint Peterat more than 3,800 meters above sea level, was developed in day and night mode, putting into practice what was learned throughout the annual training period, seeking to implement the real capabilities of this unit located in Calama.

In the middle of the development of the exercise Andean Sentinelthe Calama Infantry Battalion No. 15 developed an inter-arms exercise with the Engineer Battalion No. 1 Atacama of the Motorized Brigade No. 1 Calama, implementing defensive actions.

High Mountain Sentinels

The origins of the Calama Motorized Brigade No. 1 date back to Andean Battalion No1 of the Mountain Detachment created by him Supreme decret of February 26, 1924, which established a unit that would cover the Calama garrison.

On April 30, 1924, it was named Mountain Detachment No. 1 General Lagos. On November 10, 1931 he became the Mixed Regiment No. 1 Lagos and on June 2, 1938 it was renamed Andean Detachment No. 1 Calama General Pedro Lagos.

Later, on February 7, 1948, it changed its name to Reinforced Mountain Infantry Regiment No. 15 Calama of General Pedro Lagos and on July 21, 1981 it became the Infantry Regiment No. 15 Calama.

The unit merged in 2001 with the Engineer Regiment No. 1 Atacama integrating the new Reinforced Regiment No. 1 Topater. In 2015, in accordance with the provisions of the Orca Action Plan 2015-2018receives the name of Motorized Brigade No. 1 Calama.

The brigade is currently made up of the Calama Infantry Battalion No. 15, the Atacama Engineer Battalion No. 1, the Artillery Group No. 10 Burgoño equipped with towed howitzers Let go M-71 155 mm and a barracks unit.
