During the examination of her ministry’s bill, Aïssata Tall Sall, Keeper of the Seals and Minister of Justice, responded to the concerns of deputies by emphasizing the fairness of justice in Senegal. She said there are no double standards in the country’s justice system.
The minister declared that when a politician commits a common law offense, he is judged in the same way as any other Senegalese citizen, by the same judges, in the same courts and under the same conditions. She insisted that there is only one justice in Senegal, which applies equally to everyone, whether famous or anonymous.

“Where have you seen the State Security Court here, it has been abolished and repealed since 1981 with the advent of President Abdou Diouf. What happens here is when a politician commits a common law offense like another Senegalese commits a common law offense, he is judged by the same judges, the same courts under the same conditions. Now don’t ask me if there is justice for the famous and the great and the small. I refuse, there is only one justice for the big and the small and for the famous and the anonymous. Because that is the vocation of justice. The work of justice is a serious work, which is why it must be parsimonious and it must be equidistant from all citizens. Because we are all born free and equal before the law. This is what justice embodies,” declared Aïssata Tall Sall.
Aïssata Tall Sall also stressed that the State Security Court was abolished in 1981 and that there are no political detainees in Senegal. According to her, all detainees are common law and are equal before the law and justice. She rejected the idea of two-tiered justice and stressed the respect she gives to judges, whether they render favorable or unfavorable decisions.
