25 expatriates were arrested for violating the labor law in Muscat, Oman. 25 expatriates were arrested during the inspection conducted by the Ministry of Labor in Muscat Governorate.

Oman’s Ministry of Labor stated in a press release today that the General Directorate of Labor Welfare of the Ministry of Labor has conducted an inspection campaign to combat illegal sales of expatriate workers in the provinces of Qurayyat and Amerat in Muscat Governorate. During the campaign, 25 workers were arrested for violating the provisions of the Labor Act. The press release of the Ministry of Labor added that legal action is being taken once morest them.

Recently, two expatriates were arrested by the Royal Oman Police for smuggling drugs into Oman. According to a press release of the Royal Oman Police, he was arrested for smuggling 84 kilograms of hashish and 19 kilograms of crystal meth.

Oman granted citizenship to 201 expatriates

Muscat: Oman granted citizenship to 201 expatriates. The order was issued by the ruler of Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. 201 expatriates from different countries got citizenship. Authorities have not released more information regarding those who have received citizenship.

The application fee for citizenship is 600 riyals. Wives or ex-wives of natives need to pay 300 Riyals to obtain Omani citizenship. Children also have to pay 300 Riyals. Applicants must produce documents proving that they are working in Oman. It should also be proved that no previous legal action has been taken once morest the applicant. 12 types of documents including medical report should be submitted while applying. Children of foreigners who are granted Omani citizenship will also be granted citizenship within six months.

Foreign applicants will have an Arabic language written test. If you fail the exam, you can retake it following six months. In this way, you can write the exam up to four times. Foreigners receiving citizenship cannot stay outside the country continuously for more than six months. Special permission of the Ministry is also required.
