Princess Anne, MD — A Jordon Lewis three-point play with 7:33 left cut the UMBC deficit to 51-48, but host Maryland Eastern Shore would score 19 of the next 25 points en route to a 70-54 victory over the visiting Retrievers on Sunday followingnoon.
Anna Blount led the way for UMBC (1-5) with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Jaden Walker had a season-best 11 points, Paloma Iradier tied her career-high with 10 points and Lewis poured in 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.
Walker also added five boards and two assists as six different Retrievers recorded an assist. UMBC had 13 assists on 23 made baskets.
Maryama Turkstra made her first career start and tallied a career-best three blocks in the effort, and Iradier also helped on on defense, adding a pair of blocks.
Trinity Palacio came off the bench and recroded a team-high and season-best five assists.
The Retrievers return to The Peake for a Wednesday night contest on ESPN+ once morest Lafayette. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
