ÖOG is a “partner of the armed forces”
Vienna (OTS) – In a ceremony on November 24th, 2023, Minister Klaudia Tanner presented the President of the ÖOG, Brigadier Erich Cibulka, with the award as “Partner of the Federal Armed Forces”. In her speech, she acknowledged the ÖOG’s decades-long commitment as the republic’s security policy conscience. Previously, she donated the ecumenical blessing of the new ÖOG flag in St. George’s Cathedral in Wr. Neustadt as a flag sponsor a flag ribbon.
At the delegates’ meeting on November 25, 2023 at the Theresian Military Academy, the Chief of the General Staff, General Rudolf Striedinger, explained the status and future direction of the Federal Army in the presence of numerous guests of honor from home and abroad. He was honored with a high award for his many years of vice-presidency in the ÖOG.
The delegates unanimously called for further and even more decisive measures in order to train and provide sufficient soldiers for the operational organization. It was suggested in detail
- to subject 1% of the birth cohort to EF officer training every year,
- to align the salary of career officers with the bachelor’s level in the federal service and
- the reintroduction of recurring, mandatory full-force exercises.
When the presidency was elected, the president’s ten-year term of office was extended by a further four years. President Cibulka promised to continue to work for an operational federal army and quoted a Latin proverb as his credo: “If you want peace, then prepare for war.”
