Advent calendars can be designed and filled as desired. In addition to chocolate, toys, tea bags, cosmetics, sayings and vouchers, even beer bottles are suitable as elite content. The Pumpkin Wies cultural initiative has equipped its Advent calendar with 24 “literary windows”. Because hardly any other festival of the year is accompanied by as many poems and stories as Christmas. The Advent collage with music will be performed on December 3rd, 14th and 17th in the Theater im Pumpkin.
HOW. The Advent calendar shortens the time until Christmas. Opening the window is a daily ritual and always associated with a certain tension. Specimens that cannot be bought anywhere else are extremely popular. The Advent calendar even plays a role in the Theater im Pumpkin this year. On December 3rd, 14th and 17th, the audience can experience the surprises this special Advent calendar is full of.
“The windows from the past symbolize the windows of the abstract Advent calendar. When opened, a pre-Christmas atmosphere should arise.”
Director Karl Posch
On the stage, windows of different designs and sizes hang next to and behind each other. No two are alike. The windows are dusty and partly blind; The paint is peeling off the weathered wood. The windows have one thing in common: the patina of the past clings to them. Nevertheless, the glass relics reflect a beautiful tradition that we all loved as children on long winter evenings. The adults read and told stories.
There are touching, thoughtful, contemplative, exciting, critical, emotional but also funny stories and poems across all literature that are hidden behind the 24 windows of the abstract Advent calendar. Literary gems by Ludwig Thoma, Rainer Maria Rilke, Bertold Brecht, Trude Marzik, Joachim Ringelnatz, Josef Guggenmos and Peter Turrini.
Karl Posch, who directs, made the text selection. He not only came up with the idea for this pumpkin production but also the majority of the introductory texts. “The whole thing should touch you and put you in the mood.”
Exciting stories, thoughtful words, funny descriptions
To the right of the stage, a monitor contrasts with the old windows. The numbers 1 to 24 gradually appear on the screen. The topic of the respective window is also displayed. Maria Posch sits underneath and reads the introductory text. It leads the audience to the contribution that the actors Laura Thomann, Elisabeth Schuiki and Stefan Eisner present in an image that Nina Ortner places over the entire stage. The projection of highly alienated photos creates a very unique atmosphere and immerses the audience in a pre-Christmas mood.
The literary content of the Advent calendar revolves around themes such as Bethlehem, finding a hostel, light, peace, silence, stars, gifts, snow, Christmas trees, wishes, cookies, encounters, angels, miracles. The Advent collage is accompanied by Julia Gruber with pre-Christmas sounds played on the harp. Nina Ortner takes care of the lighting and visuals, while Rupert Wiedner is responsible for the technology.
On December 3rd and 17th, the Advent collage “It’s Christmas” begins at 5 p.m., and on December 14th at 8 p.m. Tickets and information: 0664/1615554, kuerbis@kuerbis.at, www.kuerbis.at
