It is accused of using non-fiction authors’ works without permission to train AI models, including OpenAI’s popular chatbot Chat GPT. Hollywood author Julian Sangton claims in a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court that tens of thousands of nonfiction books were copied without permission.

Microsoft is a major investor in Open AI. AI is already integrated into many of the company’s products. The plaintiff alleged that Microsoft had played a key role in training and developing such AI models and that the company had committed copyright infringement. Julian Sangton demanded that there should be no more such violations and that adequate compensation should be paid.
