A man in his 50s who visited Jeju fell 8 meters and suffered serious injuries while taking pictures from a cliff near Oedolgae, a famous tourist attraction.
According to the Seogwipo Marine Police Station on the 26th, at around 9:50 a.m. the previous day, Mr. A, in his 50s, fell 8 meters from a cliff near Oedolgae in Seohong-dong, Seogwipo-si. It is reported that Mr. A lost his balance while taking pictures on a cliff near Oedolgae, also known as ‘Storm Hill,’ and fell onto the seaside rocks below the cliff.
The coast guard and fire department responded following receiving the report and rescued Mr. A and transferred him to the hospital. At the time of the accident, Mr. A was conscious, and head bleeding and multiple fractures were suspected.
A Seogwipo Coast Guard official said, “Recently, accidents involving people falling while approaching a cliff to take pictures have been occurring frequently,” adding, “Safety is more important than pictures.” “You should never approach the cliff to take pictures,” he said.
Recently, a family of seven traveling on Udo Island in Jeju was taking pictures with the sea in the background when a concrete structure collapsed, causing three people to fall and suffer serious injuries. This structure has not been used for over 20 years and is at risk of collapse, so the Udo-myeon office has installed no-trespassing tape to prevent entry.
