Once upon a time, “Ge You Lying Down” was a popular meme that circulated on the Internet. It came from Ji Chunsheng, the character played by Ge You in the TV series “I Love My Family”. The image of his body completely relaxing on the sofa was discovered by netizens and became widely circulated.
However, this was suspected of infringement of portrait rights.
Ge You himself also started defending his rights at the end of 2016, taking many companies that used “Ge You Lying” pictures to court. One of the first defendants, Yilong.com, was compensated for more than 400,000 yuan, and was finally compensated 75,000 yuan in 2018.
Just recently, Fengxing.com publicly apologized to Ge You for using a photo of Ge You lying down.
Qichacha data shows that,As of November 23, 2023, there have been more than 700 judgment documents related to infringement caused by “Ge You Lying” photos initiated by Ge You, involving more than 650 cases.
In these cases, Ge You won almost all of them, and the companies involved had to compensate Ge You for a total of more than 8.7487 million yuan in economic losses and reasonable rights protection costs.
Among them, there are still some cases where the enterprise’s infringement was not determined due to flaws in the evidence collection process, and some cases were concluded through mediation.
