Myopia affects four out of ten people in the world today. The cause is our overly sedentary and overly connected lifestyles. However, there are ways to slow down this deterioration of vision, which particularly affects children.
Seeing a clear panel up close and a blurry facade from afar is the daily life of 40% of French people, including many children. In the Parisian school visited by our team, the “Helen Keller Europe” association comes to detect myopia in young people in CP and CM2. If there are no more myopic children than before, their vision problems begin at a very young age, explain the presenters in the TF1 report above.
500,000 French children suffer from myopia
If children are myopic at younger and younger ages, in nine out of ten cases, it is because of their lifestyle. Our close vision is used too regularly by the various screens in our daily lives, and we do not spend enough time in daylight. Today, in France, more than 500,000 children suffer from progressive myopia. The challenge is to detect it as early as possible, to limit its progression.
The optical giant “Essilor” has made it its priority. He is developing a brand new lens that helps curb myopia in addition to correcting vision. The lenses have been on the market for two years, at 400 euros per pair and can reimburse twice as much as a pair with classic lenses. More details in the video at the top of this article.
