Presidential and executive personnel changes that have been made in early December for the past three years
Starting as early as the 27th of this week… Sequential reorganization expected
Judicial risk remains early next year… Weight is placed on stability
Samsung Electronics is moving forward the executive reshuffle, which was initially expected to take place in December, to this month.
According to the business community and Samsung on the 26th, Samsung Electronics and its electronic affiliates notified some current presidents of their resignation through the Business Support Task Force (Task Force), which serves as Samsung’s ‘mini control tower’, on the 24th.
A Samsung official said, “Samsung Electronics’ personnel appointments are usually made in early December, but this year, with the CEO personnel announcements on the 27th, the last week of the month, it will be earlier than expected.” Last year, the presidential greetings were held on December 5th, and the executive greetings were held on the 6th. In 2021, they were held on December 7th and 9th, and in 2020, they were held on December 2nd and 4th, but this year, they will be held on the 27th of this month.
Rumors of Samsung’s ‘early personnel appointment’ have been circulating for several months. This is because this is Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s first appointment since he took office in October of last year, and the 30th anniversary of Samsung Group’s predecessor Lee Kun-hee’s ‘New Management Declaration’ coincided with the need to bring regarding change through personnel and organizational reform. Moreover, as the semiconductor business, which is the company’s flagship business, is suffering from a severe slump due to the influence of the global industry, there has been a need to hasten the establishment of a stable organization to promote innovation.
The prevailing view is that the scope of personnel changes will be limited as emphasis is placed on stability. It is reported that the ‘two-top system’ that has been led for two years by CEO Jong-hee Han, Vice Chairman and Head of the Device Experience (DX) Division, and Kyeong-hyun Kye, CEO and President and Head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division, will be maintained. However, there are predictions that the roles of the head of the video display division and the head of the home appliance division, which Vice Chairman Han holds concurrently, may be divided once more. Some predict that the Samsung Electronics CEO position will return to the three-tier system of mobile, home appliances, and semiconductors.
There is also a need to revive the group’s control tower, but the scope of change is expected to be limited as Chairman Lee’s judicial risk has not been resolved.
Since Lee Young-hee, president of the Global Marketing Office, became the first female president of Samsung outside of the family that owns Samsung last year, expectations are high whether there will be female talent and young talent born in the 1970s this year as well.
As soon as Samsung Electronics completes personnel and organizational reorganization, it plans to hold a global strategy meeting in the middle of next month to discuss next year’s business plan.
