Metzert, a small, quiet village in the commune of Attert, is not used to making headlines, much less legal news. However, one evening in 2021, around 10:30 p.m., a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a property and set a hedge, a species of beech, scientifically called “falgus sylvatica” ablaze. Fortunately, the impressive fire did not spread to the home. Thanks to images from surveillance cameras, the neighbor across the street is warned of being the perpetrator. On the video, we clearly see a person, dressed in black, apparently a woman, leaving her house, throwing the Molotov cocktail at arm’s length, then returning to the house from which she had left, passing through the garage door.
The owner, an elegant 55-year-old lady, is sitting in front of her lawyer, Me Devaux, and is visibly furious, upset by the pleading of Me Marc Kauten, who, on behalf of the victim, is demanding €20,771, the amount of the bill for the replacement of the substantial hedge and €3,000 in procedural compensation.

The defendant completely denies the numerous indications which tend to prove her guilt. “L The images from surveillance cameras are precise and consistent clues, remarks the king’s prosecutor Murielle Seret. When the police came to question her, Madame presented burnt hands with blisters, this is obviously disturbing. The silhouette that moves in front of the surveillance cameras corresponds perfectly to his own. It is obvious that the preventions are established. I am asking for a sentence of one month in prison and a fine of €208.”
For the defense, Me Devaux unraveled the elements of the file point by point, finding explanations for everything. The defendant wanted to speak to attack Ms. Seret and Ms. Kauten.
