Cleanliness of the city is important for tourist ranking – MA 48 ensures clean streets and squares – Grießler: “Viennese and tourists really appreciate the work of Vienna’s cleaning crew”

Vienna (OTS) This year, the Tourism and Leisure Industry division of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce is honoring MA 48 with the Vienna Tourism Prize, the honorary award for special services to the Vienna tourism industry. Tourism division chairman Markus Grießler presented the prize at a ceremony at the “48er-Tandler” in Margareten: “The work of MA 48 and its thousands of employees is indispensable for the success of Vienna as a tourism destination.”

Vienna is heading for a new annual record for overnight stays. A record that not only benefits the city’s accommodation providers and taxes, but also many other industries: from catering to transport companies and cultural institutions to retail. Grießler: “You all benefit from every single guest who visits our city. And the guests come because Vienna enjoys an excellent image worldwide. As a cultural city, a congress metropolis and the most livable city in the world. The reason why Vienna is so inviting is also the cleanliness of the city. If you read through international travel forums, this is one of the most frequently mentioned points regarding Vienna.”

Grießler: “Roads are being cleaned at record speed”

That’s why, Grießler continues, the decision to award the tourism prize to MA 48 this year was an easy one: “If you look at how quickly the streets return following an event, for example following the Danube Island Festival, the New Year’s Eve Trail or the Vienna Marathon are sparkling clean, then you can see how well the work is done here. The fastest marathon time ever was run in Vienna – if there was a rating for the fastest cleaning following a marathon, Vienna would be just as good.”

The city councilor responsible for MA 48, Jürgen Czernohorszky, expressed his gratitude for the award: “The people of Vienna are rightly proud of “their 48s”: for 77 years now, they have been ensuring reliable and environmentally friendly waste disposal and cleanliness in the city a really good job! Perfectly cleaned public spaces and a good infrastructure with wastebaskets are an essential feel-good factor, especially in Vienna – all visitors to our city also appreciate that,” said the city council, who shares the award with the employees: “That Vienna is the most livable city in the world World counts, is largely due to the work of the 48er colleagues! Thank you for your tireless efforts!”

And Tourism State Secretary Susanne Kraus-Winkler also recognizes the achievements of MA 48 for the success of the tourist metropolis Vienna: “Every day, MA 48 makes an important contribution to ensuring that Vienna is the most livable city in the world – also for our guests. 9 out of 10 visitors would recommend Vienna as a destination. In addition to classic city tourism, Vienna also scores points as the world’s leading conference city in the international MICE sector. What is particularly pleasing is that “green meetings” are becoming more and more common. In keeping with the federal government’s Tourism Master Plan, Vienna focuses on social, ecological and economic sustainability in its tourism strategy and is thus making an important contribution to making Austria one of the most sustainable destinations in the world.”
