Direct Eurostar connections between Amsterdam and London will not be operated in the second half of 2024 due to renovation work at Amsterdam Central Station, which will not affect journeys in the London-Amsterdam direction, a member announced on Friday of the outgoing government of the Netherlands.
Due to renovation work on the more than 140-year-old building at Amsterdam Central Station, passport and baggage control will not be possible for several months. Travelers will have to comply with these formalities in Brussels before continuing their journey to London.
This interruption of direct high-speed train connections between Amsterdam and London, the exact dates of which are not yet known, should take place between June and December 2024, indicated outgoing Dutch Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Vivianne Heijnen in a letter to the parliament.

“A direct trip is more pleasant than a connecting trip, but this way, at least one option is maintained for the traveler,” underlined the Deputy Minister.
She noted that the duration of this interruption, initially eleven months, was reduced to six months.
Direct London-Amsterdam journeys will not be affected, as passports and baggage are checked on departure in Britain.

Direct Eurostar services between London and Amsterdam, which have become popular with British weekend travelers, began operating in April 2018. Passengers returning to London then had to plan a connection in Brussels, direct Amsterdam-London journeys having only been introduced two years later.
As of April 2023, 1.6 million passengers had taken this route, Eurostar indicates on its website.
