Tools to optimize your electricity consumption

If the cold season necessarily leads to an increase in energy consumption, our electricity needs are in any case likely to increase in the years to come given our uses.

At the top of the list, the rise of heat pumps as a state-supported heating system notably implies a greater dependence on the electricity grid.

It is therefore urgent to learn the right actions in order to control our consumption! This is why public actors are increasing the number of tools allowing households to save money but also not to put too much strain on the electricity network.

The network manager RTE notably launched, in October 2022, Ecowatt, an electricity alert and weather system aimed at knowing moments of tension in real time at the national level to reduce its consumption accordingly.

A year later, it is the turn of Wattris simulatordeveloped in partnership by RTE and Ademe (theEcological Transition Agency), to make its appearance.

Simple and educational, it allows you to identify which electrical devices pump the most electricity and at what times you should avoid using them so as not to overload the network.

If everyone can carry out a simulation with their own data, standard profiles are also available.

In all cases, remember that consumption peaks occur between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m., then between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The objective is therefore to shift the use of household appliances and other high-tech devices as much as possible to other times of the day or night.
