The City of Liège will launch a mail reminder campaign on November 27 concerning debts due on December 31, 2022. More than 100,000 unpaid debts relating to the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, for a total amount of 35 million euros must thus be recovered .
The various crises experienced by the City of Liège in recent years (OCAM alert level, a computer attack, Covid and the floods of 2021) are put forward by the local authorities to explain this significant delay, as well as a change in accounting software.
“After an enormous amount of work carried out internally, the situation has now calmed down and the time has come to resolve the backlog which concerns more than 100,000 debts relating to the financial years 2020, 2021 and 2022. This reminder campaign is aimed at those liable to pay, Liégeois or not, who have not paid one or more sums due to the City since 2020,” specifies the City in its press release.
Several types of debts such as urban tax, commercial taxes or even nursery bills are covered by this operation.
The letters sent to the persons concerned will include all information relating to uncollected sums, such as the origins of the debts and the payment terms to facilitate the transaction. They will be accompanied by an annex detailing the help and contact arrangements. No reminder fees will be requested.
“For people who have difficulty completing these forms, an important system has been put in place in intergenerational centers, at the municipal social service and in local libraries. This system will be maintained until January 31, 2024,” concludes the City, which refers to its website for further information.
