Black-green nursing amendment fails to close gaps in care

Vienna (OTS) “The ÖVP and the Greens have to continually ‘improve’ care because they are unable to pass a proper law for the entire care sector. Although they are introducing care allowance as a good first step because they have heard the Austrian call for care at home, they are failing to close gaps in care. There is no legal entitlement to transitional care, but rather nine different state regulations,” said NAbg today. Mag. Christian Ragger.

“For example, if you go to hospital following a broken femur, you will be discharged following just three to four days, but then you may have to wait four weeks until rehabilitation begins. In the meantime, no supply is guaranteed. We see the same thing when people are sent home before recovery and then recovery is delayed, which can have serious consequences. “There is therefore a need for an appropriate offer that must be financially supported by the relevant social insurance companies,” said Ragger, clarifying his demand with a motion for a resolution for a transitional care funding law.

“We demand a legal right to rehabilitative care and support for up to twelve weeks per calendar year as a bridging aid following acute treatment in a hospital and before discharge home. There needs to be a standardization of social insurance and coordinated laws in order to develop care in a congruent manner, i.e. needs-oriented. This ensures that our citizens can leave the hospital healthy once more,” said Ragger.
