Belgium Speed Control Operation: Increase in Speeding Motorists

2023-11-24 16:05:35

The police carried out a new speed control operation throughout Belgium on Tuesday. Of the 340,664 motorists checked, 6.19% were driving too fast, the federal police said in a press release on Friday. This percentage is an increase compared to previous “speed control marathons”.

More than 120 police zones took part in this 19th edition between Tuesday 6:00 a.m. and Wednesday same time. Exceeding the authorized speed, however, seemed less significant than during other similar actions, since among the speeding drivers, only thirteen licenses were withdrawn. A year ago, 318 license withdrawals were ordered. At the time, however, more than twice as many people had been checked: 792,546 compared to 340,664 last Tuesday.

Last April, the percentage of speeding motorists was 4.56%, and in October 2022, 4.23%. Noting an increase in this percentage over the course of operations, “the police will therefore continue to draw attention to the dangers of excessive speed and to encourage drivers to respect the authorized limits”, comment the police. in the press release.
