According to HNA information, handball Bundesliga team MT Melsungen wants to bring back national team captain Johannes Golla. Aaron Mensing will come to North Hesse in the summer.

Kassel/Melsungen – Most recently, SC Magdeburg and MT Melsungen were still in the running to sign Danish backfield right Aaron Mensing. Now, according to HNA information, handball Bundesliga team Melsungen has won the contract and has given the 26-year-old national player from GOG from Gudme a contract for at least three years starting next summer. And the former Flensburg Mensing may then meet an old acquaintance once more: Johannes Golla.

According to information from this newspaper, the MT is still interested in bringing back the national team captain. The North Hessians had already competed vigorously for Golla in 2021. At that time he decided once morest a move to Melsungen and extended his contract early until 2026.

Golla comes from southern Hesse. As a teenager he moved to MT, gained experience in the A youth team of mJSG Melsungen/Körle/Guxhagen and matured into a Bundesliga professional with the North Hesse team. In 2018 he went to Flensburg and developed into an absolute leading player. He made his debut for the German national team in spring 2019. National coach Alfred Gislason appointed him as Uwe Gensheimer’s successor as captain.

Some contracts with the North Hessians are expiring in the summer. What is certain so far is that backfield right Ivan Martinovic will move to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. According to HNA information, Frisch Auf Göppingen is said to be interested in signing the half-left Julius Kühn.

What is certain is that the Tunisian Mohamed Amine Darmoul will be an MT player from July 1, 2024. He is currently still in the service of the second division team GWD Minden. A winter transfer of Darmoul is not (yet) an issue, as following the loss of Domagoj Pavlovic, the Melsungers have now brought in a supplementary player at short notice in the form of the Norwegian Sindre Aho and thus a replacement for the Spaniard Erik Balenciaga.

However, thanks to the excellent start to the season, the North Hessians put themselves in a good starting position for the fight for the European Cup places. It wouldn’t be illogical if they expanded the squad even further given their high ambitions immediately following the European Championships in January. The transfer window is open until February 15th. (Björn Mahr)
