La Fundación PharmaMar yesterday celebrated the 1st edition of the Argonauta Fundación PharmaMar Awards, recognizing people or projects that have contributed significantly in recent years to the advancement of medicine, science and health in our society.

The award for the best clinical case has been awarded to Louis Gros, medical oncologist and Postdoc fellow, Early Lung and Cardiac Action Program (ELCAP) Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York (USA), for his innovative work in the treatment of Advanced and refractory peritoneal mesothelioma, performed in collaboration with Dr. Antonia Digklia. In the category, the award for the best care provision for a hospitalized COVID patient was awarded to Pedro Landete, Pulmonologist at La Princesa University Hospital, for his contribution during one of the most challenging periods in modern medical history, where his experience and knowledge helped improve the quality of care and the life of many patients with COVID-19.

The award for lifetime achievement in basic research was awarded to Adolfo García-Sastre, director of the Global Health and Emerging Pathogens Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinaí, New York (USA), for his exceptional career in the field of virology. and immunology, standing out for its innovations in the development of vaccines and its crucial contribution to the understanding and combating of viral pathogens such as influenza, SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses of importance to human health.

Finally, the award for career in clinical research was presented to Josep Tabernero, Head of the Medical Oncology Service at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, ​​Director of the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), for his distinguished career and recognized leadership in the development of molecular therapies once morest cancer, as well as its significant contribution to translational medicinereflected in his extensive scientific work and his global impact on the oncology community.
