A public official’s post saying that citizens do not want to pay for high public services is attracting attention following being posted on an online bulletin board.

On the 23rd, an article by Seoul City Civil Servant A was posted on the community with the title, ‘People in our country try to eat up public services.’

Mr. A began his article by saying, “Of course, it is right to pay a reasonable price,” referring to electricity bills, gas bills, subway fares, public services for public officials, etc.

Mr. A said, “The quality of public services in our country ranks 9th in the world. “If you search YouTube for the disadvantages of overseas immigration, the one thing that comes up is ‘government offices are too slow to process things,’” he said. “There is no country that processes things as quickly as Korea.”

He continued, “People in our country swear at the police a lot, but it is rare to find a country where police officers are as friendly and hard-working as Korea.” He continued, “Even if you are not an immigrant, if you live abroad as an expatriate or study abroad for just one year, you will be able to travel to the United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia. “You can see how much faster our public officials get things done than in developed countries,” he added.

Mr. A pointed out that people’s willingness to pay is low compared to the ‘high quality of public services’. Mr. A said, “It is a truly amazing national character. “They want to receive good quality service quickly, but they don’t want to pay money,” he wrote. “Looking at this, I can understand that our country is ‘Little China.’”
