A giant flag reading “Our voice is the voice of the people” headed the march for the rights of children and adolescents to the Civic Center. Colorful flags, balloons, yellow hats and music marked the meeting made up of social organizations, schools, gardens, the CTA and Soyem.
«We come to this march to have fun because there are games and music. We had a good time so we always come,” said Joaquín, one of the many children who participated in the march.
Bariloche experienced the 27th edition of the Week for the Rights of Children and Adolescents with multiple activities, such as traditional kite dancing, intercultural days focused on the worldview of the Mapuche people, childhood and adolescent assemblies and even a street soccer match coordinated by Crearte.
These activities are carried out in November to celebrate the signing of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a 1989 international treaty that recognizes all people under the age of 18 as subjects with full rights.
On this occasion, during the reading of the document, the organizers highlighted the 40 years of recovery of democracy and mentioned that before the «current context of generalized uncertainty” and a “future of confusion“, the organizations “will not give up even a millimeter on the rights of children and adolescents.” «Within democracy, everything; Outside of democracy, nothing,” they emphasized.
Silvina Vera, from the Alihuen picnic area and member of the Children’s Movement, joined the march. «Children have the right to be happy and have a plate of food every day. That’s not happening. Therefore, the importance of this week to make visible the reality of each neighborhood and territory,” explained the woman.
She was also concerned regarding the lack of work that many parents face. «There are many children who have to go to picnic areas and dining rooms to be able to eat. There are children who have a bad time at home and there is no one to ensure that they are happy, that they do not suffer violence. Because there is violence of all kinds,” she highlighted.
Edith Spinoza, from Grupo Encuentro, assured that today the problems suffered by children and adolescents are “more serious than years ago.” «The group emerged in a context of political, economic and social crisis. What we demonstrate is that we are capable, with children, of being able to face life with a project for the future.“, said.
