Regulation of Aesthetic Medicine in Sonora: New Modifications to the Health Law

Hermosillo, Sonora; November 23, 2023.- The deputies that make up the Health Commission unanimously approved modifications to the Health Law for the State of Sonora, in order to regulate aesthetic medicine, this due to the incidence of cases of poor health. practices that are registered in the entity and that have led to serious health problems.

Deputy Oscar Eduardo Castro Castro, president of the Commission, submitted for consideration that he add to Title IV of the Health Law for the State of Sonora, a Chapter I BIS called _On aesthetic medicine_, which is made up of articles 66 bis , 66 bis 1, 66 bis 2, 66 bis 3, 66 bis 4 and 66 bis 5, presented by legislator Ernestina Castro Valenzuela.

The promoting representative explained that the objective of the addition is to provide services in the field of aesthetic medicine and thus guarantee the well-being and safety of the patients who come to them, seeking improvements in their physical appearance.

“It is an initiative that was duly cared for, it has the endorsement of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and the corresponding legal areas of the State Congress, of the Legal Department. We believe that this regulation will mainly benefit health, our focus and our main concern is the health of citizens,” he noted.

Castro Valenzuela explained that professionals who practice aesthetic medicine must have a general practitioner, surgeon or medical degree issued by officially recognized institutions and, in addition, have certification and experience in carrying out these practices.

Likewise, regarding the services contains data that allows the professional preparation of the personnel who practice them to be verified, and the sale, dissemination and/or promotion of these procedures in spaces that do not comply with health measures is prohibited.
