The young woman represented France at the international competition held in El Salvador this year. Starting among the favorites, she was ultimately not selected among the twenty finalists. Bad performance or rigging?
She had just landed from her flight from New York, where she made a stopover two days following the frenzy of the Miss Universe competition in El Salvador. Diane Leyre was invited to the set of “Touche pas à mon poste” this Wednesday, November 22 to look back on her adventure on the other side of the world but also on her defeat.
She was among the favorites as soon as her participation in the competition was announced. The former Miss France ticked all the boxes to win the crown, seven years following Iris Mittenaere. From his speech to his steely mind through his physical preparation, nothing seemed to be missing… except perhaps his qualities on parade. And this is precisely what he was accused of.

“I took 25 hours of fashion show lessons but it didn’t really show. We were among the favorites until I went on stage actually”, she said while keeping a smile. However, it seems that Diane Leyre has mitigating circumstances for this performance considered average. A few minutes before the start of the Preliminary Show, the candidate suffered an eye infection. An excuse for some. The chronicler Jacques Cardoze had also stated that“having an eye disability did not prevent you from walking”. As a preamble to her explanation this evening, Diane Leyre challenged the former presenter of “Complément d’investigation” of “put on six-inch heels, a swimsuit, one eye less and I’ll watch you on stage”.
“They sabotaged me a little bit, it’s true»
Slightly annoyed, the beauty queen then revealed what was really hidden behind this blurred vision. It would not be a simple irritation due to a fragility of the eye as the person concerned had shared during the competition. This would seem more like an attempted sabotage. “Being allergic to micellar water, the representative of France experienced disappointment. “They wanted to do my makeup to redo my makeup and so it went into my eye”explained Diane Leyre before adding: “They sabotaged me a little bit, it’s true. I think the makeup team, which was Latin, didn’t necessarily want a French girl.
To temper these remarks, she feigns uncertainty but still emphasizes: “I found myself with a burnt strand, completely messed up makeup. […] I had to redo everything 20 minutes before the set because my Nanny came to see me saying “clearly they sabotaged you, you have to redo everything”», recalled Diane Leyre. For her, it is a sign that her victory was absolutely not desired by the committee. “It’s obviously destabilizing. After all, that doesn’t prevent me from being bad on stage.”she moderated.
For Gilles Verdez, there is no room for doubt. Diane Leyre was the victim of rigging. “The competition takes place in Central America, a Nicaraguan woman wins. We saw in the finalists that there were a lot of South Americans, seven out of ten”he stressed.
