Brussels has been decorated with its traditional end-of-year illuminations since Wednesday evening, and will be until December 31. Every day, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., the City of Brussels has decided to once once more highlight its different shopping districts with the “Brussels By Lights” event. This year, the public will have the opportunity to discover new features, including an interactive “geocaching” course.

The magical atmosphere specific to the end-of-year festivities has taken up residence in the center of Brussels. “The central boulevards are notably enhanced with new light suspensions simulating fireworks, while Laeken, Haren and Neder-Over-Heembeek have been designed to accommodate new light decorations,” informed the City of Brussels in a press release. “A great opportunity to enhance the personality of these neighborhoods and make them even more attractive,” rejoiced Fabian Maingain, alderman for Economic Affairs, Employment, Administrative Simplification and the Smart City.

In total, nearly 21 km of light patterns and 10.5 km of garlands were deployed in the capital.

“For this eleventh edition, Brussels By Lights is pulling out all the stops, offering its visitors a unique journey following in the footsteps of the illuminations placed in the city center. » In the form of a five-kilometer “geocaching” (geolocated treasure hunt) game, the route begins at 65 boulevard Anspach, “under the benevolent gaze of a giant luminous cat called Eikosis”.

The curious will be able to “discover the shopping streets of the city center during two fun walks, each lasting 1h30”, underlined Fabian Maingain. One route is located in the Grand-Place district, while the other winds through the Marolles.
