Innovative Christmas Villages: Solar Panels on Ferris Wheel and Ice Rink in Huy

The question is not so obvious at a time when different Christmas villages are opening their doors almost everywhere. And in certain cities, like Liège, we decided to innovate.

Solar panels on the Liège Ferris wheel

Take the Ferris wheel for example. After being absent last year, she will be there this time. Larger than before, with closed nacelles, and also, a small novelty, solar panels installed on each nacelle. “We have a battery charging system for all attraction lighting” explains Lionel Jéru, the person responsible for this Ferris wheel.

So no, these panels do not allow the wheel to be completely autonomous in electricity, but the savings are still worth it: “We are looking at consumption roughly equivalent to a large chalet of mulled wine with electric hotplates or fryers, for an entire Ferris wheel. This greatly helps reduce consumption. This is the first Ferris wheel which is like that in Europe, even in the world I think. It already works very well with lighting. Why not do it with engines.”

In Huy, following rollerblading, the ice rink is making a comeback
