2023-11-21 21:05:45

Members of Albania’s opposition party used smoke grenades and lit a fire inside parliament as part of a protest over allegations of corruption by the prime minister during the country’s 2024 budget.

In the images, thick black smoke streaked with green and red quickly enveloped the room, which increased the disorder in the government compound.

The demonstration took on an even more chaotic appearance when the elected officials lost control of the fire they lit.

After extinguishing the flames, a black mark can be seen on the piece of furniture on which the burning container was placed.

The scene comes at a time when the country is experiencing difficulties, as Prime Minister Sali Berisha faces accusations of corruption.

The prime minister’s son-in-law allegedly involved in the fraudulent transaction was arrested while Mr. Berisha, who has immunity from prosecution, denies the accusations according to The Guardian.
