Apple studies battery system to balance Vision Pro’s weight

One of the most controversial features regarding the design of the Apple Vision Pro It’s the fact that your battery is external and connected by a wire.

Although this is advocated by Apple — following all, putting a battery in your head might make the device heavier — many people think this might hinder its use.

Still, even if this component is not in your head, all the others end up, in some way, adding volume, which can compromise the experience and the balance between the front and back parts of the product. To help with this problem, Maçã seems to be studying new ways to balance the set.

According to the description of a patent application discovered by Patently Applethe company is studying balancing the weight of the headset using a band located on the back of the head, which would have the capacity to support the connection of interchangeable auxiliary batteries and include a system that better manages the cables.

As a result, users might suffer fewer problems related to neck pain caused by prolonged use of the product.

This is in line with similar solutions seen in direct competitors of the Vision Pro, such as glasses from Meta’s Quest line. Interestingly, as the vehicle also mentions, the patent was presented regarding a month before the announcement of Apple’s headset, which took place last June, at WWDC23.

In any case, the first generation of Apple Vision Pro — without this solution — will be launched in early 2024 (probably in March), costing from US$3,500 and initially limited to the United States only.
