Photovoltaic panel installers are overwhelmed until the end of the year due to an upcoming change. From 2024, the meters installed with the panels will no longer run backwards. For future meters, electricity production and consumption will be separated. This will, among other things, cost consumers additional transport costs.
Loic has just installed his photovoltaic panels on his house in Incourt. Just before the change in legislation. He will therefore still be able to benefit from a counter that runs backwards. This system is advantageous because when the customer does not consume all the electricity produced, the supplier buys it back from him at the same price as he sells it to him.
“A kilowatt produced is equivalent to a kilowatt that we can use. Later, the ratio will not be the same. The calculations were quickly done, so we said to ourselves, this is the moment, this is the moment “, explains Loîc.
Because from next year, new installations will no longer benefit from this advantage. Photovoltaic panel companies are therefore in high demand. Jonathan Lemaine has no more slots until January. “Compared to the requests that are still arriving now, this is one of the first questions from customers to salespeople, is can you still install in 2023. When the answer is no, the customer responds that ‘he’s going to look elsewhere’, indicates the installer of photovoltaic panels.
What you need to be careful regarding is to self-consume as much as possible
From 2024, to install new panels, it will be necessary to install a smart meter which will allow the electricity injected into the network to be calculated separately. The panel owner will have to sell the electricity he has not consumed to a supplier, but for a very low price. Around 0.06 euros/KWH compared to 0.16 euros/KWH for the purchase price. “What we have to be careful regarding is to self-consume as much as possible and to optimize our use of electricity to consume at the time we produce. This means large machines. We operate them in full day to match consumption to production”advises Jonas Moerman, energy advisor at Ecoconso.
For photovoltaic panels installed before January 1, 2024, the counter that runs backwards can still be used until 2030.
