This train was supposed to go to Zaventem airport, but commuters were stuck on the platform for more than 4 hours.
“The train departing from Dinant towards Brussels Airport Zaventem caught fire at Lustin station. Travelers evacuated”, Aral reports this Monday at 10:30 a.m. via the orange Alert us button.
A small explosion happened right next to me
“It happened around 6:30 a.m. First there were strange noises then a woman screamed,” the commuter tells us. “A small explosion occurred right next to me with a flashback. The fire alarm then went off”, says Aral. According to him, the train driver came to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. “And the passengers rushed towards the exit when we arrived in Lustin.”
According to Aral, the passengers then had to wait on the platform for more than 4 hours. “At first there was a little smoke coming out of the train. The driver appears to be manipulating. We’re still waiting for an alternative.”describes the commuter at 10:30 a.m. “I have already warned my boss that I will be very late.”
The train stopped in Lustin is awaiting repair
Around 11 a.m., the wait for stranded passengers ends. “We are on a train heading to Namur. The situation is almost back to normal, except for the train stopped on track 2 at Lustin awaiting repairs,” he explains.
On X (formerly Twitter), SNCB confirms that due to “a train broke down in Lustin, traffic was disrupted between Namur and Dinant”, without giving further details at the moment.
We tried to contact the SNCB spokesperson on several occasions, without success.
