Washington: A strange disease affecting the behavior and appearance of deer has been reported in Yellowstone National Park in the US. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) or ‘Zombie Deer Disease’, which is highly contagious and kills deer in droves, has been discovered in the park.
The disease was confirmed in a dead deer found near Yellowstone Lake in the southeastern part of the park. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it can sometimes take more than a year for symptoms to appear in infected deer.
Chronic wasting disease
Disease spread by proteins known as prions
All animals belonging to the deer family such as elk, reindeer, sika deer can be affected
The disease is spread to other deer through the saliva, feces, urine, and blood of infected deer.
Discovered in the 1960s in Colorado, USA. Later, it was reported in 31 states, including Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Montana.
It has been reported in three provinces in Canada since 1996. The disease has been noted in reindeer and moose in Norway, Finland and Sweden
It has not been found in humans yet. However, the disease can also be transmitted to humans by eating the meat of infected deer
Because the prion proteins that cause the disease are not broken down, the disease can be transmitted even if cooked
It is not clear how the disease can affect humans
Symptom
The control of the brain will be lost
???? The nature of infected organisms will change suddenly
Can be violent
Deer lose consciousness and body balance
Saliva will flow through the mouth
The body will be thin
The diseased deer reminded me of zombies, fictional characters in movies
