Luz Piedad Eusse had two passions: journalism and motorsport. On Sunday, the 38-year-old died during a sporting event at the Tocancipá Autodrom when a huge screen fell on her. Five people were injured in the accident – including one of Eusse’s daughters.
Shortly before 2 p.m. local time, hundreds of spectators of the finale of the 2023 Ford Motorcraft season heard a loud noise, according to “El Colombiano”. A little later the screen collapsed. A video on social media shows the moment the device tipped over due to a strong gust of wind and hit people who were at the VIP stand. Many ran away to save themselves; the presenter is said to have stayed there with her daughters (six and eight years old), writes “El Espectador”.
A work colleague called Eusse’s death an “absurd accident” on X (formerly Twitter). The Tocancipá Autodrome, almost 40 kilometers northeast of the capital Bogotá, was “a happy place” for the presenter. According to broadcaster Noticias RCN, the Cundinamarca Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the accident.
