Doha’s Offer to Provide Three Alternative Energy Plants to Lebanon in Partnership with Total: A Potential Solution to Lebanon’s High Energy Costs

The Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, confirmed Doha’s readiness to provide three alternative energy plants to the Lebanese side, in partnership with the French company “Total”.

During his visit to Doha to meet with the most prominent Qatari officials, Salam discussed with Al-Kaabi the crisis of high energy costs (among the most expensive in the world), which is considered the main reason for the rise in the prices of services and goods by regarding 50%, as it is the main obstacle to the production costs of factories and the operating expenses of institutions and companies. .

The Qatari minister presented his country’s readiness to undertake the construction of three alternative energy plants, in partnership with the French energy giant “Total”, as a rescue step for the national economy and the country.

He also stressed that this gift has easy conditions, and is limited only to the Lebanese side providing the necessary lands for the implementation of this project, provided that the Lebanese authorities choose their locations according to priorities and need.

As for the production capacity of the three plants, the Qatari side estimates it at regarding 500 megawatts, that is, between 25 and 30% of Lebanon’s energy need today (regarding 2,500 megawatts), if this is deducted from the private alternative energy sources (solar energy) owned by the Lebanese, which are estimated at regarding 1000 megawatts.
