Lately, it has become quite common for video games to sell better and more often on digital platforms than in physical formats. But in October 2023, the UK market has almost changed. Because Gamesindustry.biz reported that digital game sales were down 24% from October 2022, with a total of 1.6 million digital games sold that month. Physical games, on the other hand, grew 8%, with 1.08 million units moved this month. The reason for this change is said to be related to the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III in November, with Modern Warfare II debuting last October. Looking specifically at games, we’re told that while D8c5c765034cd48e1b9a548bccd82f304 is the month’s biggest physical and digital game, the game does have 16% fewer units than #Db5f34e50ba2b458f87e8c55b3d1e12ad6. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the month’s second-biggest game and the month’s best-selling new game, outselling God of War: Ragnarök by 2%, 94% above Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and 9% below Spider-Man %. It should be said that while D55ae39b3d9b34f77816fff73ee627f0f Super Mario Bros. Wonder did place third on the physical charts, there’s no word on its digital sales as Nintendo doesn’t share those figures. However, it is believed that this might be the biggest digital Mario launch ever, as the game broke various physical records. This does mean that D8ceb1287e0374318a42dae574922e872 ranks third on the digital chart (and fourth on the solid chart). Looking at consoles, overall sales here were down 10% month-on-month, with PS5 down 4%, Xbox Series down 33%, and Nintendo Switch actually up 15%. There were also 584,000 accessories sold throughout October, down 15% from October 2022. So while it’s been a big month for exciting and critically acclaimed games, October 2023 isn’t actually as impressive as the UK’s sales mentality.
