This new squid festival, proposed by the APSF, is a success.

This Sunday, November 19, the APSF, the Frontignan sports fishing association, in partnership with the City of Frontignan, offered the first edition of the Calamarade. In a festive and popular atmosphere, many Frontignan residents gathered at Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville to taste the squid.

Liven up the month of November

Mayor Michel Arrouy, surrounded by his municipal team, officially opened this very first edition, in the company of volunteers from the association. “Squid is caught in winter,” declared the mayor. “It’s an opportunity to liven up the month of November. As for the recipe, we’re chauvinistic here, but maybe some people will want to share their secret !”

Françoise Mauran, vice-president of the association, is happy with the creation of this festival, born during the last squid fishing competition. She thanked Fernand Perez, captain of El Pescador, who initiated the first squid fishing competition and also congratulated David Cochet, an active member of the club and member of the French sport fishing team who obtained second place in the world championship which took place in Dakar, Senegal.

The volunteers of the Frontignanese Sport Fishing Association were all in action to satisfy squid lovers. 140 kg of cephalopods were planned and by 11 a.m., the first 500 trays were sold. All that remained was to cook them! Nico, the chef of the Cave à Nico, was in charge of an improvised brigade with volunteers from the APSF to offer everyone the squid in parsley, the smell of which attracted the crowds.

Manufacturing secret: “Love!” exclaims Nico. Good olive oil, fresh parsley, and you have to salt it well because the squid can be a little bland. In a restaurant, I would add a little chili but not this time, so that it suits everyone.” Emma and her grandmother Maryse were served: “We love squid. We usually eat it at home but we make it with rouille.” Everyone got their tray and the fun was there on the Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville and Place des Halles until the followingnoon with the atmosphere provided by the DJs.

Saturday November 25, 2023: 5th edition of the squid fishing competition.
