In Madagascar, four days following a highly contested presidential election, the opposition and its “collective of 10” are working behind the scenes for a new strategy before the proclamation of the final results. While 10 of the 13 candidates boycotted the vote on Thursday, November 16, outgoing president Andry Rajoelina is in the lead, according to the latest CENI estimates. He is heading towards re-election in the first round, as promised to his supporters.

« The struggle continues », asserts a manager of the “Collectif des 10”, while speaking of a new form of protest. Meeting on Sunday, November 19 followingnoon, the opposition candidates worked on their future strategy. Will it be a question of continuing the demonstrations in the street, which have become almost daily for almost two months? “ This is not to be ruled out », replies this source.
According to our information, the “collective of 10” might once once more be the collective of 11, with the possible return of Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko to its ranks. Candidate number 13 left when he finally decided to campaign, despite his peers’ call for a boycott.
« He was in the elections, he is now legitimate to contest the results », we murmur today within the collective. Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko also undertook with his teams his own vote count, ensuring that he did not believe the results published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Céni). The latter currently give Andry Rajoelina in the lead with 62% of the votes.
According to a political analyst, the opposition is currently reorganizing in the hope of a radicalization of the movement. This would only happen once the final results have been announced, no later than Saturday November 25.
