The right-wing extremist retired teacher Herbert F. from Vienna is in a prison in Afghanistan.
He traveled to the country to prove that it was safe for refugee repatriation.
Now his relatives are very worried regarding him.
Herbert F. (84) has been sitting in a Taliban prison in Kabul for six months: the right-wing extremist blogger from Vienna traveled to the country in the Hindu Kush despite warnings. He wanted to show that, contrary to the opinion of experts, Afghanistan is a safe country of origin and that refugees can be deported there without any concerns – and his action proved the exact opposite.
The retired teacher and well-known right-wing extremist was kidnapped on site with flimsy reasons, arrested and has been in captivity ever since – under inhumane conditions, as his family has now made public. The prisoner’s daughter has now started a petition on Openpetition.eu calling for comprehensive release efforts by the Austrian Foreign Ministry. “The family is very worried regarding their father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather,” says the statement – 50 declarations of support have already been collected.
There is a death penalty for “espionage”.
Herbert F. reported on his barren cell without daylight, in which he had to lie on a mattress on the cold floor and without blankets. “Aid deliveries, such as urgently needed blood thinning medication, are not arriving,” warns the family. In addition, the 84-year-old’s hearing aid broke – “without a hearing aid he might soon become deaf,” the relatives fear.
The Austrian, who is accused of “espionage” by the terrorist organization that rules there, faces the death penalty in the worst case scenario. He is considered a central figure in the right-wing extremist scene. In the 1960s he co-founded the National Democratic Party, which was later banned, and most recently ran a Telegram channel and an inflammatory blog on the Internet.
