Charles Leclerc took pole position in the Las Vegas Grand Prix but failed to take the victory following an imposing Max Verstappen who won; However, the Monegasque managed to get on the podium by taking second place following making an incredible pass on Sergio Pérez in turn 14 of the final lap.
After the race, the Ferrari driver explained how he executed that maneuver that surprised the Mexican, as he confessed that he had to plan it a few laps before to take advantage of any mistake by Checo Pérez on the track.
“Once I took the plunge, I was pretty sure it would turn out well. It was basically the only chance he had. It’s the only place where you can really overtake. And I also took into account that Checo had made a small mistake four or five laps earlier, so he knew that he was being a little cautious on the braking,” he declared.
Charles Leclerc, who was chosen as the driver of the day in Las Vegas, announced that it was on the last lap when he decided to take action to overtake the Mexican.
“On the penultimate lap, I started recharging the battery to prepare for that last lap and it worked. So obviously it’s been very, very tight, but I’ve been very happy and enjoyed the fight a lot. […]. They are mixed emotions. On the one hand, I am very happy with today’s performance,” he indicated.
