Apple may start developing its own cameras for the iPhone internally, according to the latest rumors. The objective is to have more control over how photos are taken and processed by the device. Despite not having official confirmation, this behavior would follow Apple’s tendency to design more things internally, as it already does with its chips.
The information comes from reliable Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. He suggests that Apple is thinking regarding creating an internal strategy for camera sensors. Photography is a huge advantage for iPhones, as we see in the “Shot on iPhone” campaigns.
This change might also affect other products, like the Apple Vision Pro and the rumored Apple Car, where cameras are important for mixed reality and self-driving cars. By designing the sensors in-house, Apple wants to not only improve how the cameras work, but also plan for future advancements and better integrate the hardware with the software.
Apple has done this before with processors and chips, and is also working on a modem that might arrive in 2025. Additionally, they are exploring batteries that might make iPhones last longer. Another project involves a glucose sensor that can be used in the Apple Watch, led by Tim Millet, one of the bosses at Apple.
