On Friday, a Liège police patrol had its attention drawn to a man who was near a store in the city center. The man was holding a somewhat transformed cutter in his hand.

The police arrested him and the prohibited weapon was seized. The suspect, born in 2004, of no known address and illegally staying in Belgium, was deprived of his liberty and brought back to the police station on rue Natalis, still in Liège. There, he was placed in a cell while waiting to be referred, Saturday morning, to the duty magistrate of the Liège public prosecutor’s office.

Arson

But on Saturday, around 6 a.m., while he was still in the cell, the suspect attempted to set himself on fire. Without much success, fortunately. In addition to a charge of carrying a prohibited weapon, here he is with a second charge of arson with the aggravating circumstances that it was night and that the fire was lit in an occupied building.

The magistrate on duty who received him on Saturday put the case under investigation with a request for an arrest warrant.
