The tunnel allows direct access to Docks Bruxsel without having to make a detour of more than a kilometer via the Van Praet bridge which has barely been inaugurated, another construction site is looming on the horizon of Schaerbeek station. A permit application has just been submitted to “renovate the station platform complex”.

The editorial staff was able to consult the documents. There is talk of renovating the platforms, currently at different heights, “in order to facilitate access to trains”. Also on the agenda: improvement of lighting, upgrading to PMR standards including elevators, renovation of corridors. The emblematic metal canopies dating from the 20th century will also be renovated, including the integration of shelters.

SNCB mentions the date of 2025 for the start of work. The station “is experiencing a constant increase in the number of travelers”, according to the SNCB request, with around 3,200 people per day, or 18,000 per week. “Forecasts for the years to come are growing since it is expected to reach 25,000 travelers per week by 2030.”

Remember that a new waiting room and covered parking for bicycles were recently installed at Schaerbeek station.
