Shift to the left in Vienna’s education policy – responsibility is once once more shifted to the federal government
Vienna (OTS) – “Babler, SJ and numerous other comrades are driving the Viennese SPÖ further to the left. And the neos are obviously just watching. The current proposals at the Vienna conference taking place today cannot be interpreted any differently. However, this puts our education system in acute danger,” said state party chairman City Councilor Karl Mahrer in response to today’s report in the daily newspaper “Die Presse”.
The Viennese SPÖ obviously wants to make a significant shift to the left in its education policy at today’s Vienna conference through a number of proposals. Among other things, the aim should be to introduce a comprehensive school for all six to 14-year-olds without grades, and to abolish the Matura and German classes. “The SPÖ is a pioneer when it comes to counteracting the idea of performance or integration measures,” says education spokesman, local councilor Harald Zierfuß.
In the area of kindergartens, responsibility is once once more shifted to the federal government. As is well known, elementary education is the responsibility of the federal states in terms of legislation and enforcement. “It should therefore be emphasized once more that it is the city government’s task to improve the working and general conditions in Vienna’s kindergartens,” continued Zierfuß.
Instead of dealing with trivialities, the Viennese Social Democrats should finally tackle the main challenges in education and integration policy. “Vienna must face these problems proactively instead of once once more ruling past the population,” Mahrer concluded.
