GOIÂNIA, GO (FOLHAPRESS) – The Goiás Court sentenced, last Tuesday (14), doctor Wesley Noryuki Murakami da Silva to nine years, ten months and ten days in prison for very serious bodily injury. He is accused of deforming the faces of nine patients during aesthetic procedures in Goiânia. According to the decision, he will be able to appeal freely.
Lawyer André Bueno, responsible for Murakami’s defense, said that “he respects the decision of the Judiciary and will adopt the appropriate legal measures in the case”. The decision was handed down by judge Luciano Borges Da Silva, 8th Criminal Court for Crimes Punished by Reclusion and Detention of Goiânia.
In total, according to the lawsuit, Murakami was accused by eight women and one man. Most of the victims, according to the investigation, sought out Murakami to undergo facial harmonization procedures. The cases occurred in 2013, 2017 and 2018.
In the decision, the judge highlights that, following carrying out the aesthetic procedures, “the victims began an extremely painful and prolonged recovery phase, due to permanent sequelae, and others underwent reparative procedures”.
The judge also recalled that Murakami committed identical crimes, with the same methods of execution, using polymethyl methacrylate (PMM) and botulinum toxin, “without legal authorization to do so”. “Does not proceed. He has a license and it is proven in the records”, said the lawyer to the report.
According to the complaint from the State Public Prosecutor’s Office, he did not have a medical specialty to perform aesthetic procedures. Therefore, according to the accusation, he would have exceeded the limits of the practice of medicine. He has been registered with the regional body since 2003 as a doctor.
Also according to the decision, expert reports show that the doctor did not provide adequate assistance to patients following complications.

One of the patients, according to the decision, sought out Murakami to perform facial harmonization and said she underwent an aesthetic procedure carried out by him, which would have injected the PMMA product into her face. She said she had several nodules on her face, which caused her a lot of pain.
After seeing the swelling on her face, the patient stated that she sought assistance from the doctor, who would only have done a “very aggressive massage”.
She also said that she sought help from other doctors to alleviate the swelling in her face. According to the woman, Murakami did not request any clinical examination prior to carrying out the procedure.
According to the complaint, another victim said he had complications following the doctor injected a product into his buttocks.
Then, she would have been informed of the need to remove part of the muscle along with the product. She said she was left with second-degree burns and scars, requiring tattoos to alleviate them aesthetically. She stated that she had one buttock larger than the other, as well as several nodules.

In 2018, Murakami was arrested in Goiás, taken to prison in Brasília and released on January 17, 2019.
Murakami had his professional registration suspended and was already ordered to pay compensation of R$60,000 to one of his clients who was left with following-effects following a cosmetic procedure. For another, he was ordered to pay almost R$24,000 because of the same problem.
