After checking out what the iPhone 15 Pro Max has to offer, we now have our hands on the most basic model in the new 2023 cell phone line. Has this brought significant changes or is it just more of the same?
The design has finally evolved and is now in line with Apple’s most advanced models. The classic notch is gone and we have the new pill-shaped one that Apple calls Dynamic Island. The new feature previously debuted on the Pro models brings integration with the system and some applications for displaying alerts and shortcuts. The rear, however, remains the same as before. Another new feature is the USB-C port that replaces the old Lightning.
It wasn’t this time that the most basic iPhone gained a screen with a high refresh rate and remains limited to 60 Hz. At least the panel is new and now delivers brightness almost as strong as the more expensive ones. The sound remains stereo, but with lower power than its predecessor. Still, the maximum volume is good and the sound quality is pleasant overall.
The iPhone 15 does not come with the A17 Pro that debuts with the most advanced models in 2023. Here we have the already known A16 Bionic that guarantees great performance with any iOS app or game. A curious detail is that it was slower than its predecessor in our speed test focused on multitasking and this might be due to software limitations to avoid excessive heating.
The battery grew, but ended up performing less in our standardized test. The difference is small compared to the iPhone 14, but it is disappointing to see a setback at this point, especially when charging remains slow and takes almost two hours to fully fill the battery.
Another evolution in this generation is the main camera, which features a 48 MP sensor for clearer photos. The secondary has an ultra-wide lens and once once more we are left without optical zoom on the cheapest iPhone. The quality of the photos is good, as are the videos recorded by the camcorder that records in maximum 4K resolution at up to 60 fps. There is great stabilization, agile focusing and good audio capture.
Is the iPhone 15 worth buying? We have an updated design with USB-C input, more powerful hardware and a new main camera. These are small changes, as always happens with each generation of a new iPhone. To find out all the details and what your rivals have to offer, just check the link below:
