Presented as a European first, the Jourdain program refining plant, in Les Sables d’Olonne (Vendée), was inaugurated on November 16 following a decade of R&D, technical, regulatory and environmental studies. This plant, whose construction began in February 2022, will reprocess the wastewater currently discharged into the sea in order to be able to reintroduce it into the natural environment and then supply the pumping and purification stations. The unit, initiated by the departmental council under the aegis of its departmental union Vendée Eau, represented an investment of 23 million euros, including 7.8 million euros in European, regional and departmental subsidies as well as ‘Water Agency. Veolia was the project manager, with two other candidates, Suez and Saur, having applied.
