Wouldn’t it be great if the current internet speed might be increased even more? Chinese companies have introduced the fastest internet in the world. The companies claim that it can transfer up to 1.2 terabits per second (1200 GB per second) of data.

In short, up to 150 HD movies can be transferred in a single second, according to Wang Lei, Vice President of Huawei Technologies. The project is implemented by Tsinghua University, China Mobile, Huawei Technologies and Sernet Corporation. The network has been prepared in a length of 3000 km. The network operates by connecting Beijing, Wuhan and Guangzhou. Up to 1.2 terabits of data per second can be transferred through this optical fiber cable network. Today’s fastest networks have a maximum speed of only 100 GB per second.

The fifth generation Internet 2 network recently tested by the US might transfer up to 400 GB of data per second. The network was put into operation in July but was officially launched on Monday following various tests. The Beijing-Wuhan-Guangzhou network is part of China’s future Internet technology infrastructure. According to FITI project leader Wu Jianping from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the discovery also gives China a new technology to build an even faster internet.
