Eight cases of dengue viral fever have been recorded in recent days in Togo, with five in the Maritime region, one in the Plateaux region and two in the neighboring Savanes region of Burkina Faso, the Minister of Health announced on Tuesday. and Public Hygiene, Moustafa Mijiyawa.
“Investigations are underway to look for possible cases in the community with a view to their early treatment,” he said in a press release.
Mr. Mijiyawa called for the adoption of vector control measures to reduce contamination, and in case of suspicion, to inform a professional at the nearest health center for rapid and adequate care.
Dengue is a viral infection that is transmitted from mosquitoes to humans. This epidemic in Togo occurs in a context of increasing cases in West Africa. In Burkina Faso, dengue fever has already killed 511 people from January 1 to November 12.
