Women should pay special attention when returning home at night. There was a previous incident in South Korea where a woman living alone was followed by a strange man when she returned home early in the morning. Just as she returned to her building, she just opened the door and entered the house. A man rushed out of the elevator and tried to block the door. Fortunately, the man did not succeed. Recently in Chicago, the United States, a woman living alone called on her not to turn on the lights immediately following returning home. It turned out that she was being followed by a strange man.

Mary Alice from Chicago posted a video on TikTok saying, “When you go home at night, don’t turn on the lights immediately when you enter your apartment, especially if people can see your window from the street. Because if someone Follow you home and they’ll know which apartment you live in.”
Before Mary went out that day, she spotted a strange man wandering near her apartment. She immediately had a bad feeling. When she got home from work, the same man chatted with her as soon as she got out of the car, reminding her that the headlights were malfunctioning. “I said, ‘Oh. Yes, I know, I just need to find time to fix it.” She quickly ended the conversation and immediately went home to lock the door, but did not turn on the light immediately.
After confirming that she was safe, Mary observed the situation outside the door through the monitor and found “he was standing on the street very close to my apartment, staring at my apartment.” She even hid in a car parked on the side of the road. Wait at the rear for at least 5 minutes before leaving.
Mary revealed that this was not the first time she had encountered such a situation. She even hid in the bathroom to film the video because it was the only room without windows in the house. “I was tired of feeling like a prey,” Mary said. She released this video as early as the end of March, but she did not explain in detail how she came up with the idea of ”Don’t turn on the lights yet”, nor did she update the follow-up to the incident, but the content continued to ferment and was widely discussed.
Many netizens were shocked and horrified by her experience. At the same time, they were very grateful to Mary for her reminder, “This is why I always leave the lights on in the living room open” and “Always trust your instincts.” In addition, some people suggested that you can set the lights and speakers to start at a scheduled time to create the illusion that multiple people live together, or occasionally change the route to avoid always coming home at the same time, or even simply get a dog.
